Yass is a rural town of some 5500 people located on the Yass River, a tributary of the Murrumbidgee. 40 minutes to Canberra by car. Visit our historic buildings. Burrinjuck Dam waterways are ideal for Boating and Fishing. Take a day cruise aboard the Lady B.J. River Boat. Hire a boat and enjoy a riverside BBQ. Visit Careys Caves, the most colourful limestone caves in Australia. Local wineries are open for tastings and wine purchases.
Ask about the Sheep shearing displays or go horse riding.Although traditionally centred on wool, merino studs and agriculture, a number of wineries and vineyards have sprung up to the south of town.The Yass Show is held in March and the Yass Arts-and-Crafts Festival in November.
