Mornington Peninsula accommodation

Portsea Portsea
The Coasts of the Mornington Peninsula offer both exciting surfing and sheltered bays for people to enjoy other watersports such as windsurfing and swimming.  The many villages and seaside towns which dot the Peninsula offer some very special holiday experiences.

The famous township of Portsea nearly 100 kilometres south of Melbourne CBD is a great long weekend or vacation spot for locals, and overseas or domestic visitors alike.

It offers the Mornington Peninsula National Park including Point Nepean.  Walking tracks provide views over ocean and beach areas with some really outstanding sea views from the higher vantage points.  There are a great number of boutique hotels, holiday apartments and even a caravan park. However one of the best value ways to enjoy the area is in a short term luxury holiday house.  A number of these are available and operators such as Verve Beachside's Melbourne accommodation,  providing a central booking point for such accommodations, (and at time of writing they provided an excellent list of a variety of holiday houses on the Mornington Peninsula.   Their service also provides a registered Travel Agent which offers deals on optional extras and special holiday inclusions.

The Portsea front beach gives access to the Mornington Peninsula's sheltered bay waters, excellent for a range of watersports including yachting. There is also what is known as the back beach or ocean beach, which faces Bass Strait, and is renowned throughout the surfing community.

Point Nepean is part of the Mornington Peninsula National Park, and the Farnsworth Track leads to the London Bridge  - a rock formation, highly recommended for those who enjoy spectacular coastal views and the beauty that only nature can provide.

Sorrento

Surf MelbourneApproximately 90 kilometres south of Melbourne, Sorrento's tree lined streets allow visitors to enjoy the best of the Mornington Peninsula climate.  There are a number of luxurious holiday homes available for rental.  The Sorrento Beach has frontage to the bay, providing opportunities for watersports and swimming.

The nearby back beach also provides challenges for beginner and experienced surfers alike, and there are excellent cliff vistas for amateur and professional photographers.

The area's attractions include the Marine aquarium, where those seeking a relaxed holiday itinerary can watch seals being fed, or enjoy a bay cruise and perhaps a chance to swim with the Dolphins.

The Coppins Track allows keen walkers to travel the coastline including a section of walking track which travels through the Mornington Peninsula national park.

Rosebud

Situated on the edge of Port Phillip Bay nearly 80 kilometres south of Melbourne CBD, Rosebud has safe swimming beaches and some excellent peaceful shores. Accommodation ranges from leisure parks and small cabins on to beachside apartments and holiday houses.  And Mornington Peninsula National Park is within easy reach of Rosebud and there are also monthly markets held nearby.

Mornington

MorningtonThe resort township of Mornington, about 55 kilometres south of the Melbourne city, occupies a delightful holiday spot on the western side of the Mornington Peninsula facing Port Phillip Bay.  Mornington provides sheltered serene beaches and some lovely coastal bushland, while still in easy proximity to the CBD.  Many people are familiar with the colourful change sheds on the Beach, which are often featured in tourist photography promoting Victoria's beaches.

An excellent selection of eateries and restaurants attract  visitors and locals alike. The convenience of vineyards and winetasting the region it boasts is hard to resist - with Redhill Han's Creek estate at Merrick's North. and Dromana Estate.  Holiday houses are popular at Mornington and weekly stays are not uncommon. The craft market is another reason to hang around and enjoy the relaxed pace of Mornington.
